The arrive at Youtube pay per view, the parameters that you should actually consider are CPC & CPM.

  • CPC (Cost Per Click) &
  • CPM (Cost per Thousand Impressions)

Now, the tricky part is that these metrics are not fixed. They keep varying from channel to channel, and depends on many extrinsic factors like demographics, timing, content and affiliation.

They also depend on the type of ads being displayed on your videos, channel popularity and how often visitors click those ads. Advertisers also target viewers by age, gender, location or by what types of videos they like to watch on YouTube.

For example:

The CPM of ads increases during holiday times, and drops during a certain time of the year. Some videos earn a higher or lower than average rate depending on the video content.

YouTube charges advertisers when a viewer watches 30 seconds or more of the ad. So, you don’t make money based on the amount of views you have. You make money based on people’s interaction with the ad.  Interaction means clicking an ad or watching an ad for more than 30 seconds.

How Much does YouTube Pay Per View?

Firstly, you need to be aware of the different YouTube Advertising formats?

According to popular resources, here’s how the CPM varies based on the type of ads.

  • CPM for In-stream/ Video ads: $2-$5/1000 views (maximum for Pre-roll ads)
  • CPC for Display ads/Banner ads: average $0.18 per click

CPM for some ads costs more than the above mentioned average. So you might get paid anywhere between $0.002 per view to $0.005 per view. If a video get paid 0.0038/view, its doesn’t mean that all videos in that channel make the same.

In 2013, a pre-roll advertisement on YouTube (one that is shown before the video starts) cost advertisers on average $7.60 per 1000 views. It sometimes goes upto $10/1000 views in case of reputed channels having lots of subscribers with consistent & worthy content.

Hi, zoya!

Thanks for dropping by! I believe no one would see a video that's badly made. The videos are made good to increase retention and viewership of the audience. The more they are watched, the more they are shown in the top search results and hence more money from ads. Hope you got it :)
